Homeopathy Basics

What’s in Sue’s Library?

There have been so many requests for a list of the books that I study from…”What’s in Sue Meyer’s Library!” Too Funny!

At first, I thought, no big deal. Just start listing them. But oddly enough, when I sat down to start going through my library, it became very personal!

I love to chit chat and have conversation with good folks, but my personal life is my personal life. Books? Oddly enough, I take them very personal. I didn’t know I did, but I do. I’ve spent so many hours, weeks, years, studying, and carrying them around wherever I go that I suppose, they are like my little children!

So, when asked for a list?

Well, I thought…ok. I’ll put together a list of my all time favorites! The books that I feel are my ultimate…Can’t Live Without books.

These are the books that I built my “Classical” foundation from and am so thankful for. These books can and will give anyone all the understanding of Homeopathy that is needed to truly understand the workings and goings on of Homeopathy.

Every other style of homeopathy comes from the basics and principles taught in this list.

I say style because every great homeopath has a style, a way of case taking and perceiving that which is not balanced within the body. Every style has its merits…but all great homeopathy has a solid foundation. And that solid foundation can be found and taught from these books.

So, here is my short list of recommended reading:

  • Organon of Medicine, Samuel Hahnneman – for obvious reasons!
  • Gould’s Medical Dictionary (Fifth Edition or older)- I consider this a foundational book for disease and terminology. Just like in the old Detective movies, they would say: “The names and places have been changed to protect the innocent.” Well, I say, “Today, in these modern times of pharmaceutical monopoly, the names of disease have been changed to confuse the innocent!”
So, I believe the study of disease in imperative.
  • Grays Anatomy-Essential to anyone needing the physical terminology in old homeopathic journals and books. For my Naturopath studies as well, this book was key. I already had a solid foundation of anatomy, but I needed more in-depth knowledge.
  • Lectures on Homeopathic Philosophy, James Tyler Kent – A Must Have.
  • Lectures on Homeopathic Materia Medica, James Tyler Kent – A Must Have.
  • Repertory of the Homeopathic Materia Media, James Tyler Kent – Again, A Must have for the serious student. This is the official Materia Medica used in CHC testing and is very effective for use to follow rubrics.
  • Homeopathic Cell Salt Remedies, Nigey Lennon and Lionel Rolfe -One of the best books on Cell Salts that I’ve found to date.
  • Homeopathy in Diseases of the Teeth & Gums, Dr. Y. R. A -An excellent book that teaches the pathways of relation between tooth and organ. Excellent reference to have.
  • Desktop Guide, Roger Morrison – This book is imperative for any student, as all the Keynotes from this book are the “Must Know” Keynotes for the CHC Test.
  • The Prescriber, John H. Clarke – An awesome little book for looking up an illness or disease to prescribe for. (Of course any good homeopath knows that it is a rare chronic case that is cured by a set protocol…so this book is excellent for basic, acute [sudden onset] disease)
  • Dictionary of Practical Materia Media, J.H. Clarke.- My first Materia Medica, and still one of my favorites and includes the most popular and most used remedies, even today.
  • Constitutional Medicine, John H. Clarke – Again, a favorite that I’ve read and re-read. Here is where I learned of Compton Burnett, and Von Grauvogel’s studies. I love this deep physiological look into homeopathy.
  • Miasms and Nosodes, Louis Klein – This is an excellent book for the advanced student who desires a deeper understanding of the relationship between the Miasm and the Nosodes most often used within that disease state. Like I said, this is quite advanced and I do not recommend it until after a solid understanding of All the above books is met.

I hope that you are able to add some of these wonderful books to your own library.  May God bless you in your study of homeopathy.

God bless you and yours,

Sue Meyer

Methods in Homeopathy

Once upon a time, I literally vowed to myself that I would never write another letter. Writing can get one into so much trouble. Let it be written; Let it be done. You cannot take away that which has been etched in stone.

That’s why it is so hard for me to write these blogs. The podcast isn’t such a big deal, folks listen, retain up to 20% of what I’m yakking about, giggle a bit, learn one or two things that they may or may not ever use and then move on. They don’t dissect every little word and scrutinize each statement, they just listen and hopefully learn.

Why am I mentioning yet another of my weaknesses? Because we all have them. Some of us are more reluctant to admit it than others, but we are all imperfect.

And because people are imperfect; Nations, Politics, Curriculums, all things that are run and written up by people are imperfect. We are not God. We can be inspired, but the human factor tends to flavor our work.

There have been so many wonderful things accomplished by so many wonderfully clever people…. Dr. Samuel J. Hahnemann was one of those men.

What he began was based on the teachings of the Original Father of Medicine: Hippocrates; “Like Cures Like”. He took that which was already understood, and expounded upon it. He spent the last years of his life learning and teaching about homeopathy, based upon this “Like cures Like” theory. Because it made sense. He didn’t change it, he only amplified the info., and made it more understandable…but he was not perfect, he didn’t know, “everything.”

Homeopathic books are often based on provings, cases, and protocols that have worked for one doctor or another. If the book was written by one of the Original Great Homeopathic Doctors, I say that it is a great book. I say great because, these were written after much research and in depth proving. The information is worth your time to study. Rarely did the personality control the writing. Records were kept and recorded so that other doctors would be able to know what had already been studied, and what the results were. I consider these books worth holding on to.
In Today’s world of homeopathy, we are seeing so many “changes” that people keep asking me, what style or method of homeopathy do you think I should study?

Again, I am human. I make at least one or two mistakes a year. (Ok, I’m totally laughing here) But about homeopathy I have very strong opinions.
I am Classical. Remedies are proven one at a time, they simply cannot prove a combination remedy. I have used combination remedies, but when I do, I always explain that the body is reading only one remedy at a time.

And, I also tell folks that homeopathy hasn’t changed. What worked two hundred years ago, still works the same way today. However, there are many wonderful strides being made when it comes to the language.

The Cheat Sheet Charts, as I like to call them, is a style of coming to the correct remedy more efficiently. This was put together by Rajan Sankaran and Jan Scholten, and taught very efficiently by Rajan’s student Dinesh Chauan. It is known as the Sensation method, which is very deceiving because it is still Classical in every sense of the word.

I totally embraced this method because of my devotion and understanding of St. Benedict, who taught, “If you want to know a man, listen to him but for five minutes and he will give away his heart.”

In other words, we cannot help but give a good homeopath all the information necessary for him to be able to find the correct remedy. The human body intrinsically knows what it needs, and will literally “say” what it needs. This is not new. Homeopathy has always worked this way…but after nearly three hundred years, wise listeners have learned to connect the dots and align remedies with language.

There are other forms of prescribing homeopathic remedies. Like protocols. (a protocol is a set system of giving a remedy or series of remedies for a particular illness or complaint) I have come up with my own protocols for certain issues, and there are other protocols that doctors have come up with. These protocols are very often efficient especially for “Acute” illness or hereditary disease. I have not however, found them efficient for long term healing when the issue is of long-standing and there is a “never well since” (other than the flu) in the description. Protocols definitely have their place in the world of homeopathy, but there is no way that a protocol can address the patients trigger. (the trigger is the “human” factor that has allowed the disease state in the first place)

There are also recipes. I mention it here because you will find it stated as such in old books. It is the giving of two or more remedies in succession for an issue like a cough or fever.

At seminar, I met an amazing young homeopathic doctor from India, he said, “Sue, in India we are so busy, that when a mother comes in with a sick child, we discern the symptoms and give the remedy for that illness according to what the child’s body type is; we literally have pictures of four different babies on the wall. These show the main body types.”

So, you see, there is no right or wrong, there are just different ways to come the end. My main advice is to not consider the old classical form of prescribing passé. Learn as much as you can from as many sources as you can. I relish the new, but never discount that which is old, tried and true.

And realize that nothing in homeopathy is ever out…it is only ignored by modern thinkers.

Homeopathy is a wonderful world of true healing…the correct remedy will always trigger the body to begin healing; proper nutrition and lifestyle will aid this process; spiritual correctness will complete the process.

May God Bless You and Yours,

Sue Meyer

Letter from Sue – Crash Course in Homeopathy

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Dear Friends,

Thank You for your interest in Homeopathy. Your family will realize in twenty years what a gift you have given them; because when their health and their children’s health is okey dokey, and they have to watch their friends and neighbors suffer from debilitating illness and disease…they will say, Thank You, Mom, Thank You Dad, thank you for this un-purchasable gift!

Everything that we do in this life is done in stages, from Infancy, to crawling, toddling, running, learning, sports, higher academics, raising a family, learning a trade, or a foreign language;  whatever we do, we will learn it in a systematic and methodical way.

Homeopathy is no different. When I was first introduced to this wonderful world of non-medicine…I was flabbergasted to say the least! I was so over-whelmed at the fact that a tiny little pellet would trigger my body to…. what?……..“Heal itself?!?!?!?”

Amazing and unbelievable when you have been raised in the Allopathic world (world of pharmaceuticals).

So, that is how Homeopathy for Mommies began. My Excitement and Enthusiasm for this world of Natural Health had to be shared or I would have exploded!

Our Crash Course in Homeopathy, offered on our website, is just that… a Beginner’s Guide to understanding what homeopathy is, how it works, why it works, and then how to begin using the top 80 remedies in your home. I use my own personal stories to help drive home the deep healing properties of these wonderful little remedies. I have been thanked by more moms and dads than I can count! I’ve received phone calls from Naturopaths and Chiropractors from around the country who have been trying to learn homeopathy to round out their practice…. they thanked me for making the process so simple! One doctor said, “I just couldn’t wrap my mind around the concept of homeopathy, until I stumbled on to your training. Thank You for making this so understandable.”

I said you’re very welcome, but honestly, it isn’t me. All of this knowledge has already been put out by the best of the best. It just took someone like me… a real tenderfoot to the world of homeopathy to get frustrated enough, (because there was no single book that actually explained everything I needed to know to help me get my family healthy) …. that I began compiling notes and combining the information that I found helpful in my world and before you know it…. after a few short years of systematic and methodical study and the actual use of the remedies, we had the Homeopathy for Mommies Crash Course!

This course has been on sale at an introductory price of $30.00! We have had the price so low, so that the many folks who have been waiting patiently for me to get this on-line, could finally purchase their course, and for all our new friends as well! We have decided to hold the sale at this price until…Friday, September 30th.

But, marketing research has shown that even if you have the very best product on the market….if you don’t price the product according to the market….yours will not sell. Sad to say, it’s true. So even though this awesome course is easily worth over $500.00 for all of the information that it contains and the fact that it will be yours to listen to over and over and over again; my conscience will not let me price it that high. I want it to be affordable to families, but I also want it to sell so more families can learn about the wonderful benefits of Homeopathy. So the moral dilemma?

The new regular price for our Crash Course will be $129.00, beginning October 1st. Still almost $400.00 less than it’s worth.  I hope that you will take advantage of the low Introductory Price of $30.00 for the Crash Course in Homeopathy and begin your study today!

Thank You Again for your sincere desire to what is right for your family.

May God Bless You and Yours, Sue Meyer

What is Homeopathy?

homeopathy-1409040_1920

Homeopathy is a valid form of natural healing which has been used to heal patients for over 200 hundred years. World wide (outside the USA) it is one of the most popular forms healing, with clinical studies that are impressive to even the most skeptical critique.

Homeopathy does not treat disease, per se; it treats the symptoms of disease – therefore treating the “patient” who has a disease.

When someone has an illness or a disease, that person will have physical and/or mental complaints.

In homeopathy, we listen to the patient. We observe his symptoms, and then we choose a remedy that is most similar to what he is describing or to what we can observe.

Like cures like. Simillimum.

Ten men can have a headache. You may find that no two of them describe their headache in the same manner. The location, the intensity, the sensation of pain (shooting, stabbing, pulsing, throbbing, etc) what makes it feel better or worse. These are all “symptoms” that will indicate the correct remedy.

This is the beauty of homeopathy…it’s not generic; it caters to each individual and their very own, unique complaints.

It was suggested to me, that I should try to explain how and why homeopathy works within this book. Let’s just say that as much as I would love to go into the nuts and bolts, so to speak, of these fascinating little remedies, I must refrain. I want to keep this book simple, therefore leaving the inquiring mind to research these questions elsewhere. Some suggested reading would encompass the works of:

Samuel J. Hahnemann, James Tyler Kent, William Boericke, C.M..F.von Boenninghausen, and John H. Clarke; to name only a few of the truly devoted men, to whom the study and use of homeopathy will forever be grateful.

The following quote from the Journal of the American Institute of Homeopathy 61 (Nov/Dec 1968): 197-212, is the bear bones basics of homeopathy:

Developed in the 18th century by a German physician, Dr. Samuel Hahnemann, homeopathy is a natural pharmaceutical science that uses very small diluted doses from plants, minerals and animals to activate the body’s own healing process, which allows the body to heal naturally. The first law of homeopathy is that like cures like, or the “Law of Similars.

Hence: The Million Dollar Question: Why then, is homeopathy not more popular or widely known within the United States?

That answer may be very simple…

Homeopathic remedies are made from naturally occurring,

God-given elements that can not be… “Patented.”
