We've known since the beginning of time that sunlight is essential for life here on earth. But very few of us understand the reason that sunlight is so important to us. Many of us just think it's because it lifts our spirits, is pretty and warm and it helps the plants to grow! All that is true. But there's actually more to it than just that.

Sunlight, grows all things. Animal as well as plant. But how does that sunlight miraculously grow all things.

In plants, sunlight, through a process called photosynthesis, is captured and used to convert water, carbon dioxide and minerals, into oxygen and energy as a usable form for the plant’s food.

In humans’ sunlight exposure allows dehydrocholesterol in the skin to absorb UV B radiation and is converted to pre-vitamin D3 which in turn converts to a usable D3 within the body.

We have found that vitamin D deficiency increases the risk for many chronic diseases including autoimmune diseases, some cancers, cardiovascular disease, infectious disease, schizophrenia, and type 2 diabetes.

In our modern world we're not as likely to be out in the sun daily for as long as our body needs, for us to be healthy and strong.

That's probably why today we hear so much about red light therapy, and infrared light therapy. Both of which are very beneficial to the body.

If we look at the spectrum of light. We're basically looking at a rainbow.

The only time that we can see Spectrum of color from the sun, is when the sun’s rays filter through rain or ice, which acts as a prism reflecting and slowing the light rays enough to be seen by man. Thus, producing a rainbow which allows us to view the beautiful colors.

We can, however on a dry day, often see the actual wavelengths of energy as they beam down to earth. These wavelengths of sunlight are referred to as electromagnetic radiation. This electromagnetic radiation spectrum is safe for man, plant and beast and is the energy that feeds life.

In the Visible Spectrum of Color, (Rainbow) we can see 7 colors; These colors range from the highest wavelength to lowest. Wavelengths are measured in nanometers (nm) The human eye can see wavelengths that range from 380 to 700 nanometers.

From red 665, orange 630 , yellow 600, green 550, blue 470, indigo 425, and violet 400.

Ultra violet (UV) rays are at the low end of the spectrum and measure up to where violet begins; from 10 to 400 nm. (shorter wave lengths, higher frequency)

Infrared rays are at the high end of the spectrum and measure from where red ends; from 780nm to 1mm (1,000,000 nm) (longer wave lengths, lower frequencies)

Infrared light cannot be seen in color. Even though the eye cannot see wavelength color above 700 nm,  We can see the wavelengths of movement from the sun and the body can feel the infrared heat.

Infrared Light Therapy cannot be seen by the human eye, but can be felt. This form of therapy, is also very beneficial health wise, and can be used in deeper body tissue healing. Infrared light is warm and tends to promote sweating and is often used in saunas. Infrared light therapy works to detox the body and is said to improve all organ systems.

One of the best ways to experience Infrared Light, is to sit beneath a large tree on a hot day. As the Ultraviolet rays are filtered out by the leaves of the tree, the Infrared rays still manage to reach body, this is said to be deeply healing and beneficial for our health.

Red light Therapy is just that; Red Light. This area of the spectrum looks Red to the eye and is not warm to the touch.

Red light therapy is used to stimulate healing at the top layers of the body and skin. Red light therapy stimulates collagen production within the body. Has been noted to help those with arthritis. As it penetrates through to the joint area of the body. Red light facials are very popular, As it's works to heal skin, relieve pain, and increase immunity in the body, Red Light is also known to improve general well-being and to lift the mood.

I have also found that by applying an essential oil (like Valor, Frankincense, or Copaiba), to the area in need of healing, Red Light Therapy becomes an even more amazing Power Tool to aid any area faster healing. Whether it be a lame back, sore knee, glandular area, cyst or wound. I have found the Red Light very useful to speed healing.

I carry a Red Light Therapy Pen in my First Aid Kit and use it frequently as an aid to speed healing.

We encourage every family to have one in their first aid kit.  We are thrilled to now carry a Red Light Therapy Pen in our online store!  You can find it here.

*Red Light therapy stimulates the mitochondria to produce more ATP (Adenosine triphosphate); the source of energy for use and storage at the cellular level. ATP can stimulate the activity of immune cells, such as T cells and macrophages, which help to fight infection and promote healing. It can also stimulate the production of inflammation reducing chemicals, such as cytokines and prostaglandins which can help to reduce inflammation and promote tissue repair.   (ncbi.nlm.nig.gov April 23,2023)
