Exhausted Mommies?

It's that time of year! We're trying to finish up our gardens and get ready for fall and winter, the kids are getting ready for school, whether we home-school or whether our children are off to school! It's an exhausting time of year.

So, what can we mothers do about it?

Well, first of all, mothers need to take time for themselves. And I've always found that if I could get up before my children in the morning, I’d quickly got my work started.

I’d begin the laundry, figure out what we would be having for supper, get something baked for the afternoon snack. I would get my outdoor chores done. I'd go for my walk, and then I would come in and get the children up for school and get them started for the day.

Then, I would sit down and have my cup of coffee, when we finally got school started.

The point is, I think it's imperative that mom be up before the children, in order to get her wits about her! Because if you hit the ground at the same time as the kids, life seems to be a circus!

So, that's the first thing that I suggest.

And after a full day of hard work and teaching school and doing laundry and cooking the meals and doing anything extra that needs to be done, like a school event or canning or freezing from the garden which often walks well into October and November and we're still bringing in carrots and squash and trying to get the garden ready for winter because you want to pull off all the old plants or burn them off.

It's a lot of hard work! And if you have outdoor animals, like we used to milk cows by hand. Regardless, there are only so many hours in a day, so it is imperative to stay organized. If everyone knows exactly what their chores are, and does them responsibly, then life can really be quite fun.

We have to be careful not to let ourselves get overwhelmed. If we find that we're becoming overwhelmed, then obviously we're taking on too many tasks and we have to make a few decisions.

What can we cut from our day, to help all of us have more fun with our activities?

What to cut? Obviously you can't cut cooking meals and doing laundry or getting your school done. But we can cut extracurricular activities, just until everyone gets more organized again and are able to fulfill their tasks the way they're supposed to.

And as far as mommy goes, she needs to be able to rest quietly in the evening after the kids have gone to bed.

I absolutely panic when I find out that parents go to bed before their children!
I don't care how old those kids are, they should be tucked in their bed or quietly in their room (if they are teenagers) before the parents go to bed.

I know when our children were small, we always put them to bed at 7:30 of course they got up at early in the morning but they always went to bed before we did, so that we, mommy and daddy, had time to ourselves in the evening!

Parents need time to rejuvenate as well. And if kids don't go to bed like they're supposed to, then mom and dad don't get that important time together.

I know we were probably quite strict and insisted that our kids go to bed. I believe our children had enough fear and respect for us that they listened well. I never had a problem getting them to bed. I’d just say prayers with them and tuck them in, and they'd stay in bed, occasionally somebody would get up to sneak around to get a glass of water or something like that, but they always stayed in bed.

And then if mom is feeling exhausted? She now has time to sneak off to a nice warm Epsom salt tub, which always makes her feel better! Epsom salt helps to pull off all the negative ions that might be lurking within the body!

It's important that mom take care of herself.

She needs her rest, good nutrition and exercise. Exercise is extremely important and she doesn’t have to be going off to the gym. She can just take a nice brisk walk with the children, pushing the stroller, riding a bike (bike carts are a wonderful addition to every family) whatever the exercise is, it can be a family activity, that way families are doing things together and they're all getting good exercise and they're outdoors getting the good sun and the fresh air.

And hopefully Mommy has a wonderful spouse that is able to support the family financially…and comfort mommy at the end of the day! Dad’s role is not so much the care of the children as it is; to keep mommy feeling good about her role and to always be on the same page with mom about discipline and family activities. And to participate as much as possible in all the above activities!

But what do we do when all the above is out of balance?  Financial stress, a death in the family, an accident? Life is a series of unexpected events that must be dealt with, and on occasion, we don’t handle something well, whether that reason is due to poor health or over study, over work, emotional trauma?

Homeopathy can be a life saver!

A few years ago, I put out a couple of podcasts on this very important subject.

I encourage you to listen to both of these podcasts. And if you become a member of Homeopathy for Mommies Members Corner, you can print off the printables that go with these podcasts so that you have a quick guide to know what homeopathic remedy may be needed.

Again I say, Mommies need to take care of themselves. Mommies are the pivotal point of each family. And without a healthy, happy mommy, we have chaos!
